Flower bulbs are like Jello, there is always room for more! Yes,  you can always find places to tuck away a new grouping of spring-blooming tulips or daffodils. It’s part of the fun of gardening; experimenting with new flowers. You never know when you will plant your new favorite! A few years ago I discovered my favorite tulip is El Nino Single Late Tulip. It was new to me and the range of color I got from these flowers was unmatched. I hope to find another new favorite and that this list of 8 New Fall Bulbs for 2024 can inspire your next favorite flower.

8 New Bulbs to Plant this Fall for Spring Blooms!

My favorite online flower bulb shop Holland Bulb Farms has over 500 selections for planting in fall. Choosing what to plant this fall can be a lengthy process, especially if you tend to be indecisive. But, you have to start somewhere, so may as well start with what is new and exciting. Holland Bulb Farms has over 100 new fall bulbs available for the 2024 planting season. I looked through this list and picked 8 flower bulb options for fall planting that I am most excited to tell you about!

Milwaukee Sunshine Fringed Tulip

Milwaukee Sunshine Fringed TulipThis tulip is the one I am most excited about! Not only because it is named after where I live in Milwaukee, WI. But, also because Milwaukee Sunshine Fringed Tulip is exclusive to Holland Bulb Farms. This extraordinary tulip has fringed petals with double blooms. Double tulips have a full and robust appearance to them.

Milwaukee Sunshine Fringed Tulip is bright and bold and also grows the perfect height of 14-20″. It is great when planted as a spring border or in groups in the front of flower beds.

Monarch Orange Crocus

Orange Monarch CrocusMonarch Orange Crocus is truly the only orange crocus available it is truly unique. You may find shades of yellow in crocus, however, there aren’t any other orange crocus. Planting this warm-colored spring blooming bulb will liven up the garden in the early spring months. Plant plenty of Monarch Orange Crocus as they only grow 3-6″ tall, therefore planting them in groups of 7-9 bulbs will make the biggest impact.

Fruit Smoothie Hyacinth Mix

Fruit Smoothie HyacinthMmmm, a delicious blend of pastel fragrant hyacinth blooms. Fruit Smoothie Hyacinth Mix is a fresh and vibrant blend of deep purple, apricot, and bright pink hyacinths. Plant this mix with pink, white, or purple triumph tulips for a blend of spring color.  Fragrant hyacinths work well in the garden as a compact border plant, as they only grow 12″ tall. Hyacinths are also great for chilling and indoor forcing.

Party Balloons Allium

Party Balloons AlliumWow! This allium knows how to bring the party. While it may be short in stature for an allium, only 15-18″ tall its blooms are a celebration. The large globe-shaped blooms can grow as wide as 8″ across. Not only can the blooms be large and impressive, but it is also possible to have two blooms on one stem–which is rare for globe-shaped allium. Party Balloons Allium is a hardy perennial that is deer-resistant and blooms in the late spring months.

Milena Double Daffodil

Milena Double DaffodilThis exquisite double daffodil gives us a lot to look forward to. The blooms have double the petals in the cup for a frilly and ruffled look. While the flowers are appealing to the eye they are also pleasing to the nose with their sweet fragrance. Plant Milena Double Daffodil with other early spring blooming flowers like Remembrance Crocus, Concerto Greigii Tulip, and Delft Blue Hyacinths.

Sunny Garnet Tulip Mix

Sunny Garnet Tulip MixThere is something so charming about botanical tulips. This mix of Lizzy Botanical Tulips, Luca Botanical Tulips, and Taco Botanical Tulips that makes the Sunny Garnet Tulip Mix is no exception to that charm. The dainty flowers stay close to the ground growing 6-15″ tall in the early spring. The blooms open up in the sunshine to reveal cherry and glowing centers.

Botanical Tulips have features most other tulips don’t which is another bonus to planting these. They are deer resistant, grow well in hardiness zone 8, and multiply over time. This fall add some groupings of the Sunny Garnet Tulip Mix for a charming and bright color combination this spring.

Cool Call Bearded Iris

Cool Call Bearded IrisThis is a cool bearded iris but it’s also a little spicy! The bright orange beard is a spicy touch to this otherwise cool bearded iris. The large flowers have shades of white, light green, and periwinkle. Plant Cool Call Bearded Iris in groups of three with other late spring blooming bulbs and perennials like allium and peony. We love how the orange petals of Avalon Sunset Bearded Iris compliment the bold orange beard of Cool Call Bearded Iris, it’s a winning combination.

Royal Navy Double Hyacinth

Royal Blue HyacinthTrue blue is rare in flowers. Fortunately, flower bulbs like Royal Navy Double Hyacinth provide some of the best true blue flowers. Each flower has double the amount of petals for an extra full look. Plant these fragrant flower bulbs in the border or in groups in front of emerging perennials. Combine the New with the Old

Trying new flower bulbs doesn’t mean abandoning tried and true favorite fall flower bulbs. Mix a few new varieties in each year. Even if they aren’t the newest bulb on the market but they are new to you it still counts as new! You will be delighted with anticipation as you wait for the display of blooms to appear in your garden.
